Moi University has moved its 49th graduation ceremony from 3 December to Wednesday 10 December 2026.

The change is in an official notice dated 26 October 2026, signed by the Registrar (Academic), Prof. Khaemba Ongeti, as reported by TUKO and Education News on 28 October. The notice also sets 10 November 2026 as the deadline for examination queries, name corrections and clearance.

The move follows weeks of disruption from the nationwide lecturers' strike, which began on 2 October. But Moi has a second, local problem that the national deal may not settle.

Moi's lecturers may stay out over local arrears of about KSh 4.2 billion, according to reporting this week: roughly KSh 1.2 billion in Collective Bargaining Agreement money and more than KSh 3 billion in pension arrears. The university chapter's secretary, Prof. Robert Oduori, is the source named in that reporting. The chapter had also opposed a move to declare 75 lecturers redundant in August.

That local dispute is separate from the national Return to Work Formula signed on Friday 30 October, under which UASU, KUSU and KUDHEIHA directed members to resume on Monday 2 November. Whether Moi's chapter accepts the national deal as settling its local arrears has not been verified — and no Moi-specific resumption notice dated 29–31 October was found.

Earlier in the strike, Moi students appealed directly to President William Ruto: on 24 October, the Moi University Students Organisation secretary general, Enock Kwena, warned that continued disruption threatened the academic calendar. That appeal is reported, not endorsed, here.

What we could not verify: whether Moi's lecturers will resume on 2 November or stay out over the local arrears; any Moi-specific resumption notice or revised teaching timetable dated 29–31 October; the exact breakdown of the local arrears beyond the figures as reported; any statement from Moi's management on the graduation move beyond the Registrar's notice as reported.
