Laikipia University signed two strategic memoranda of understanding on Monday 26 October 2026, covering health sciences education, mental health awareness, professional development and community wellness, according to the university's own news page.
The partners in the two agreements are not named in the text seen, and no partner names are invented here. The signing took place at a ceremony at the university, and the agreements are described as bringing together local and international partners in a shared commitment to student well-being and community development.
Six days earlier, on 20 October, the university welcomed a delegation from China's Nanjing Agricultural University, led by Vice President Jiang Song, for discussions on possible collaboration in agricultural education, training and research. Education News reported the visit on 23 October: the talks focused on agricultural sciences, animal science and husbandry, and food security, with joint research, staff development, training programmes and student exchanges under consideration. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kibett Rotich received the delegation.
The collaboration would support Laikipia's plans to establish a School of Agriculture. No formal agreement has been signed on that front — the discussions centred on potential areas of cooperation, with details yet to be outlined, and that limit is stated plainly.
In lighter news from the strike weeks: with lectures suspended, a group of Laikipia students who stayed near campus cleaned the local market and unblocked drainage channels, the Mt Kenya Times reported on 13 October, and another group hiked the Ingwamiti Hills, as the same outlet reported on 18 October. Both are reported as student initiatives during the strike, not university programmes.
