Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) has put its return to class in writing.

In a memo dated 30 October 2026, from the Office of the Registrar (Academic Affairs) to all academic staff and students, Ag. Registrar Judith Zirro says normal academic activities for the 2026/2027 Academic Year will resume on Monday, 2 November 2026.

The MMU memo dated 30 October 2026, from the Registrar (Academic Affairs) to all academic staff and students. Document supplied to Campus Pulse.

The memo ties the decision directly to the national settlement. It says: "Following the successful signing of the Return-to-Work Formula, which brought the nationwide industrial action by university staff to an end, the University hereby informs all academic staff and students that normal academic activities for the 2026/2027 Academic Year will resume on Monday, 2nd November 2026."

All academic staff and students are therefore expected to report and resume their respective duties and learning activities on that date, the memo says.

What the memo does not do is publish a new timetable. It says: "The revised Academic Calendar for the 2026/2027 Academic Year will be communicated in due course." No revised dates for lectures, CATs, examinations or graduation are given in the memo, and Campus Pulse is not adding any. MMU students should watch for that revised calendar from the University itself.

The memo closes by thanking students for their patience and understanding during the industrial action, and says the University looks forward to a smooth and successful continuation of the academic year. It is copied to the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Deans and Directors, and student leadership, including the Chairperson of MUKSA.

This matters because, until this memo, Campus Pulse's university-wide sweep on 31 October found no per-university resumption notice or revised timetable dated 29 to 31 October for any university checked. The national direction was clear: the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU), with KUSU and KUDHEIHA, signed a Return to Work Formula with the government and the Inter-Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum on the evening of Friday, 30 October, ending the strike that began on 2 October, with lecturers directed to resume on Monday, 2 November. But each university still had to tell its own students its own position. This MMU memo is that step, in writing, for MMU.

Read the memo itself in full in the image embedded above. The letterhead, the 30 October date, the Registrar's signature dated 30/10/2026, and the University stamp dated 30 Oct 2026 are all visible on the document.

What we could not verify: whether this memo has also been published on MMU's official website or official social channels — searches on 31 October did not return it on mmu.ac.ke, so this article rests on the document image supplied to Campus Pulse, showing the MMU letterhead, stamp and signature. The revised Academic Calendar, and any programme-specific timetable changes, were not in the memo and remain to be communicated by MMU. No other university's resumption notice is confirmed by this memo.
