Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has extended session reporting and registration of units to Monday 9 November 2026, giving students more time to clear outstanding fees and register for the 2026/2027 academic year.
In a notice shared on its X account on Saturday 31 October 2026, the university said the extension would allow students with fee arrears to make the necessary payments.
The notice, issued by Registrar for Academic Affairs Aggrey Wanyama, said only students who complete registration would be allowed to access university services and sit for end-of-semester examinations.
"Kindly note that only students who will have registered will be allowed to access University services and sit for the end-of-semester examinations," the notice stated.
JKUAT directed students to resume learning activities on Monday 2 November 2026, following the signing of a return-to-work agreement between the government and university staff unions that ended the lecturers' strike.
The resumption follows a KSh 20 billion agreement between the government and the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) to address lecturers' salaries and allowances under the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement. UASU Secretary-General Constantine Wasonga announced the deal after negotiations with the government. "Today we have agreed on a figure we have negotiated with the government. Not a figure imposed on the union," Wasonga said.
The strike began on 2 October 2026 and disrupted learning in public universities as lecturers pushed for better pay and improved working conditions.
Students have been urged to complete registration within the revised deadline to avoid being locked out of university services and examinations.
