USIU-Africa has been crowned champions of the inter-university esports tournament in Carry1st's Call of Duty: Mobile (COD:M) Siku Zombo Tour, taking home KSh 100,000.
The winning team — Leroy Barasa (alias Raging), Bryan Bernard, Jesse Kariuki, Ajewole Pelumi and Miguel Koikai (alias Denarius) — beat Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in the grand final at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). Multimedia University finished third and the University of Eldoret fourth.
Daystar University, Meru University of Science and Technology, Zetech University and Chuka University also took part in the tour, which ran from 17 to 25 October 2026.
Jesse Kariuki said the win meant more because of the quality of the opposition. "Winning this tournament is a great feeling, especially because we were competing against some very strong university teams. We put in the work, trusted each other, and remained focused throughout the competition," he told The Star.
Carry1st Project Manager Adekoya 'Andre' Ayomide said the tournament was built to give student gamers a stage. "The Siku Zombo Tour was created to celebrate the passion of student gamers and provide them with a platform to showcase their talent," he said. "Congratulations to USIU-Africa for their outstanding performance — we look forward to even bigger competitions ahead."
Esports is one of the fastest-growing competitive scenes on Kenyan campuses, and the Siku Zombo Tour — a campus circuit built around one of the most popular mobile games in the country — drew teams from eight universities. USIU-Africa's win puts the university at the front of that scene.
