Tickets for the Bayern Munich versus Ajax Amsterdam match that will open the Raila Odinga International Stadium went on sale on Thursday 5 November 2026 at 6pm, with prices starting at KSh 2,500.
The match, scheduled for Tuesday 5 January 2027, is the official inauguration of the stadium at Talanta Sports City in Nairobi, formerly known as Talanta Stadium. Gates open at 11am and kick-off is at 8:15pm.
Tickets are available exclusively online through the official Talanta Sports City website, talantasportscity.com. There are no physical ticket sales anywhere, and fans have been warned to verify the source before paying after fake ticketing links began circulating online.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed the sale during a virtual press briefing on Thursday 5 November. "The tickets will be released in phases across multiple seating categories, with prices starting from as low as Ksh2,500, reflecting our commitment to making this exceptional sporting experience accessible to as many Kenyans as possible," Mvurya said.
Supporters can buy up to 10 tickets per order. Tickets are non-refundable unless the match is cancelled, and categories that sell out may not be available in later sales phases.
President William Ruto announced the fixture on 28 October 2026, on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Moscow. "Come fifth January 2027, we will open this stadium with a historic match between two giants of European football, FC Bayern Munich of Germany and AFC Ajax of Amsterdam," Ruto said.
The two clubs have jointly won the European championship 10 times, with Bayern Munich holding six titles and Ajax four. Both clubs have committed to fielding their strongest available first-team squads for the friendly.
Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi has clarified that the government will not use public funds to facilitate the arrival of the two clubs, with the match privately funded.
The 60,000-capacity stadium is one of the venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania. The match also serves as a build-up event for the tournament.
The choice of European clubs for the opener has drawn criticism, with Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua arguing that local teams should have headlined the opening of the stadium.
