Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna opened the Linda Mwananchi headquarters and secretariat in Lavington, Nairobi, on Friday 30 October 2026, in what the movement presented as the unveiling of its national headquarters and presidential campaign command centre.

The Daily Nation reported on 30 October that Sifuna was expected today to name some members of the party's national leadership, establish campaign structures and open the movement up to aspirants seeking its ticket. People Daily, also on 30 October, reported that the Lavington launch was expected to give the movement a clearer political identity, national leadership structures and a platform for aspirants.

The biggest name on the day was not a speech. It was an arrival.

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi formally joined Linda Mwananchi at the launch today, according to TUKO, which published its report at 10:58 EAT on 30 October. Wanyonyi is a long-standing ODM member, the brother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, and a contender for the Bungoma governorship in 2027. TUKO named Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa of UDA as his expected principal opponent in that race.

Today was also the movement's aspirant registration deadline, as reported by Bana and TUKO — a deadline set by the movement itself, not by an electoral body, with aspirants who missed it reported to face permanent exclusion and a registration number acting as entry to the Lavington launch.

What happens next is already dated. The movement is reported to head to Kwale County for a major rally on Saturday 31 October 2026, immediately after the Lavington unveiling.

What we could not verify: the full, final leadership list announced at today's launch. The Nation said Sifuna was expected to name some members today, and named Caroli Omondi, Richard Onyonka and Godfrey Osotsi only as tipped for key positions. An alleged leadership list shared by presidential aide Dennis Itumbi on 29 October is alleged, not a confirmed announcement, and is not used here. No official ODM statement today responding to the launch or to Wanyonyi's move was found in the sources checked, and no verbatim launch speech from Sifuna was recovered by the time of writing. Those will be added when confirmed, not guessed.

Background, not today's news: Sifuna was removed as ODM secretary-general in early 2026, after which he launched Linda Mwananchi. In September the movement settled on him as party leader and preferred presidential candidate, according to the Daily Nation.
