Mawego National Polytechnic finished as the standout institution at the 2026 KATTI National Games, winning two national titles in women's disciplines as the finals were played on Saturday 7 November at Nyandarua National Polytechnic.
Mawego's netball team defeated Mbita Technical and Vocational College 30-0 in the final, adding the netball crown to the women's football title the institution's Lionesses won earlier in the day, edging Rift Valley National Polytechnic Queens 1-0.
Kitale National Polytechnic emerged champions in men's football after defeating Taita Taveta National Polytechnic 1-0 in a closely contested final.
Kitale captain Emanuel Ekisa attributed the victory to teamwork, determination and sacrifice, describing the journey to the national finals as challenging but rewarding.
"The journey has not been easy. We appreciate our support systems, starting with our coaches, Mr Dan Masonic, and our principal, Dr Tom Molati. Thank you so much for this opportunity. We also appreciate our players who have put in a lot of effort to make this achievement possible," said Ekisa.
Kitale represented the North Rift Region at the championships, while Taita Taveta flew the flag for the Coastal Region. The pairing mirrored last year's regional showdown, when Eldoret National Polytechnic and Kenya Coast National Polytechnic contested the men's football final at the Coast.
Sikri Technical Training Institute won the women's volleyball title after defeating Kisiwa Technical and Vocational College in the final. Sikri captain Luisa Otieno hailed her teammates, coaches and the institution's management for their support throughout the tournament.
"We thank our coaches for being with us throughout this journey. Reaching this far is because of their efforts. We also thank our principal for allowing us to participate through his support. We are happy," she said.
Kisiwa had their own title to celebrate, winning the women's paravolley championship after overcoming Sikri in straight sets, dominating the opening set 25-13 before sealing victory in the second.
Tseikuru National Polytechnic's men's volleyball team took third place at the national championships, representing the Eastern region.
The games brought together technical training institutions from across the country in football, netball, basketball, volleyball and rugby, with categories for men and women, hosted by Nyandarua National Polytechnic under Chief Principal Dr Jane Gitau.
