Bomet University was scheduled to hold its inaugural — first-ever — graduation ceremony on Friday 30 October 2026 at its Main Campus, with President William Ruto expected to attend.

The university's story is fast by any measure. Ruto awarded it its charter on 4 February 2026 at State House, Nairobi, separating it from Moi University, where it had been a constituent college, and making it Kenya's 36th public chartered university. Council Chair Prof John Shiundu and Vice-Chancellor Prof Charles Mutai led preparations for the first graduation, with hundreds of graduands, dignitaries and community members expected. The university describes itself as a "Green University for Sustainability".

That speed is also the question hanging over the day. A Getembe TV analysis the same week cautioned that a charter alone does not deliver lecture halls, laboratories, research funding or staffing, and that the President's funding promises face a delivery test. Charter-to-graduation in under a year is a headline; what the first graduates walk into — and what the next cohort finds when it arrives — is the story that will decide whether Bomet is a university in full, or a charter waiting for its campus to catch up.

As of searches run on the afternoon of 30 October, no same-day report was found confirming the ceremony took place or that President Ruto attended. This story is therefore framed as scheduled and expected, not as held. If a same-day report or photo confirms it, Campus Pulse will update it as held, with the attendance confirmed.

What we could not verify: whether the ceremony took place as scheduled, whether President Ruto attended, the number of graduands, and the state of lecture halls, labs and staffing on the day. Those will be added when a same-day report or the university itself confirms them.
