Some stories should not be written for clicks. This is one of them.
Ivy Anyango was 22, a fourth-year student at the Cooperative University of Kenya, pursuing a degree in disaster management. She was due to graduate in December 2026.
On 9 June 2026, she visited her family, then sent a message that evening saying she had returned to where she was staying. That, her mother has said, was the last time she heard from her.
"That was the last time I heard from her. We have been looking for her through friends and relatives," her mother said, as reported by TUKO.
For three months, her family searched. Friends said they had maintained regular communication with her before contact stopped around June. She lived with a roommate in Rongai and frequently travelled to Athi River, where she had friends studying at Daystar University, according to Nairobi News reporting.
What was later reported
A body was reported found on 5 September 2026 at a hostel in Athi River, near Daystar University's Athi River campus. Ivy's family and friends believe the body could be Ivy's, and her mother has said she identified features and belongings she associates with her daughter.
But — and this matters, legally and humanly — at the time of the October reporting used for this draft, DNA samples collected on 1 October 2026 had not yet returned results, and the formal identity of the remains had not been confirmed by DNA. The circumstances of Ivy's death, and how the body came to be where it was found, were still under investigation by detectives, and no suspect had been publicly identified in the reporting used here.
Campus Pulse is therefore not stating as confirmed fact that the body found was Ivy's, and is not stating a cause of death. Those are matters for DNA results and for the investigation, not for a timeline.
What is confirmed is the family's position: they are seeking answers, they are appealing to anyone who saw or communicated with Ivy from June onwards to share information that could assist detectives, and they have lived for months with the worst kind of uncertainty — a daughter missing, then a body found, then waiting for science to say what grief already fears.
Why this story belongs on Campus Pulse
Because student safety is not an abstract topic. It is about where students live, how hostels are secured, who notices when a student goes quiet, and how quickly a missing-person report becomes a serious, coordinated search.
Ivy's case raises questions every campus should be asking, without turning a bereaved family into content: how do universities track welfare when a student stops attending? How do hostels — on campus and off — record who is present, and who is responsible when something goes wrong? And how do families get timely, honest updates from investigators, instead of learning the hardest news from social media?
Those questions do not have answers in the reporting available, and Campus Pulse will not invent them. What we can do is keep this case visible, accurately, until the DNA results and the investigation give the family the answers they have been asking for since June.
If you have information that could assist detectives in this case, contact the Directorate of Criminal Investigations or Athi River Police Station through official channels. If you are a student who has gone quiet, or a friend worried about someone who has, tell someone trusted on campus now — a dean of students, a counsellor, a hostel warden — and do not wait for a timeline post to do it for you.
What we could not verify
The formal DNA confirmation of identity, a cause of death, the circumstances of Ivy's final movements between June and September, and any suspect or arrest were not confirmed in the verified sources used for this draft. This article must be updated only when DNA results or an official investigative update are published.
